Definition of Named Insured

This is the individual (or entity) listed first on an insurance policy. This person has full control over the policy. They can:

  • Make changes to coverage
  • Add or remove other insureds
  • Cancel or renew the policy
  • File claims

In most cases, they are the homeowner, vehicle owner, or business owner who originally purchased the policy.

Why It Matters in Omaha

Let’s say you and your spouse both live in your home, but only one of you is listed as the named insured. That person is the one the insurer recognizes for decisions. If you need to file a claim or update the policy, the named insured is the primary contact.

For homeowners, auto, and business insurance in Omaha, it’s crucial that the right person is named first to ensure smooth communication and full control over the policy.
