A question that we had recently was, “What kind of insurance coverage is there for my car?”
The State of Nebraska requires you have a minimum coverage of 25, 50, 25,000 of coverage. What that means is the first 25 is bodily injury. If you hit someone else it’ll pay to fix their person, and 50,000 for the total amount of people in the other car to fix their person also. The other coverage is property damage of 25,000.
Also uninsured and underinsured comes with that coverage in the State of Nebraska. That’s 25,000, 50,000. I don’t recommend the minimum, but sometimes you have to get it to have that insurance. You also have medical pay. That’s for you or whoever’s in your car. If you’re the cause of the accident, it’ll pay whatever you have; 1,000 to 25,000 coverage, depends on what you pick.
The other coverages are comp and collision. Collision is hitting something or rolling the vehicle. Usually you have a deductible for that. So if you hit a pole, you have to pay whatever your deductible is and then the insurance company pays the difference. Comprehensive is virtually everything else that can happen to the car; theft, hail, wind, vandalism.
Then there’s other coverages. There’s towing. There’s rental. There’s new car replacement. There’s a lot of different coverages, and it just depends on the company of who carries different coverages.
